As an artist, I find solace in the quiet moments, the spaces where creativity flows freely and inspiration dances in the air. This summer, I have been granted a precious opportunity—a week-long residency at VARC (Visual Arts In Rural Communities) in the heart of rural Northumberland. The anticipation builds as I prepare to embark on a journey of artistic exploration and self-discovery.
What makes this residency even more special is the fact that it aligns perfectly with the first week of the school summer holidays. It fills my heart with joy to know that I can share this experience with my son, immersing him in the peaceful surroundings.
As I imagine the peaceful haven that awaits us, nestled in the middle of nowhere, the thought of waking up to serene landscapes, far removed from the Boro life, fills me with a profound sense of calm. Surrounded by nature's embrace, I know I will find the space and time necessary to delve deep into my artistic practice.
In my current artistic journey, I am passionately exploring the captivating realm of transience and the fleeting nature of existence. Drawing inspiration from folklore and fairy tales, I weave narratives that bridge the gap between imagination and reality. Through my innovative process, I delicately imprint cotton fabric with water and ink, creating ethereal stains that embody the essence of time, cycles, and ritual.
The VARC residency offers me the opportunity to further refine this technique and explore emerging themes within my work. Immersed in the tranquil atmosphere, I can let my creativity flow unhindered, pushing the boundaries of my art and expanding the horizons of my imagination. I look forward to the challenges and revelations that lie ahead.
Throughout my residency, I will document my progress, sharing glimpses of my creations with the world. The Auxiliary and VARC have provided me with this invaluable platform to connect with fellow artists, art enthusiasts, and the wider community. I am immensely grateful for their support.
With the 22nd of July marking the beginning of my residency, anticipation courses through my veins. The week ahead promises to be one filled with introspection, growth, and artistic exploration. I embrace the solitude, and the opportunity to create with abandon.
